History of the development
In 1997/1998, North Carolina Timberline Corporation purchased 610
acres of Drummond Point Farm from the Wood Family and began
development of two residential subdivisions, Drummond Point,
consisting of 10-acre home sites, and Albemarle Shores.
Albemarle Shores was developed in two phases and the home sites
were sold in 1998. Phase I consists of 43 home sites comprised of
25 two-acre waterfront lots, and 18 five-acre water access lots.
Phase II was developed as a gated community and consists of 49
home sites comprised of 31 waterfront lots along the Albemarle
Sound ranging from 1 to 3 acres, 5 1.5- acre waterfront lots along
the Yeopim River, and 13 water access lots ranging from 1.5 to 6
acres.
Within Phase I was a 40 acre “residue” lot that was subsequently
subdivided into two 20-acre lots. The owners of these lots, though
subject to restrictive covenants, are not associated with Albemarle
Shores. They do have a private right-of-way adjacent to lots 37 and
38 as the access to their property.
Within Phase II, a 20-acre lot commonly referred to as “The Island”
was reserved for future use. It subsequently was purchased and is
under development as a private community, managed separately
from Albemarle Shores, but has an easement that grants access
rights using Osprey Drive.
For GPS users, Albemarle Shores is located at latitude 36.03.47
